FERRARI 308 GTS
In 1977, the Ferrari 308 GTS was introduced, which featured the added benefit of a black targa roof panel that could be easily removed and stowed in the cabin behind the seats. This right hand drive 308 GTS was first registered on the 14th August 1978 and is a desirable carburettor example. Finished in the original Ferrari colour of Giallo Fly Yellow (the original racing colour for Ferraris), the car also benefited from a professional respray in 2013. The Nero black leather seats have just been professionally refurbished and the carpets were professionally replaced at the same time.
This GTS is well equipped with the optional 16” magnesium alloy wheels, a deep front spoiler and air conditioning, which was converted into R134a in 2005. The engine is good and solid with no unusual smoking, leaks or rattles. Likewise the gearbox appears to function well with the gears engaging cleanly with no synchromesh problems. The original ignition system and front brake calipers have recently been overhauled.
This car comes with a comprehensive history file with a lot of invoices, numerous old MOT certificates and the original bill of sale letter to the first owner from the supplying dealer HR Owen. It has been regularly maintained by several trusted specialists and throughout many years the personal workshops of its previous privateer owner, himself a very competent mechanic and restorer with many past projects successfully completed. In 2006 at 72,000 miles the engine was professionally rebuilt with new valve guides, bearings, shims, gaskets, cam-belts and tensioners and water pump. The engine and gearbox were separated and the gear selection bush was replaced and oil leaks rectified. The timing belts and tensioners were last replaced in April 2015 at 85,901 miles.
These cars are going up in value, especially the early carburettor models, therefore a great investment for any fanatic.
